An Innovative Approach
I n T h e C l a s s r o o m
One of the first things you notice in our environment is respect, freedom and trust. Our teachers always respect the children and trust them with the choices they make. Even if they don’t yield desired results, their confidence, love of learning and curiosity carries them through to try again. Our goal for the children is not to get a perfect result, instead, practice with the process.
In Nature
It is known that animals, plants, water and other aspects of the natural world delight children, develop curiosity and draw them in as learners. At GMS children are often outdoors working on self-guided projects. The rocks, logs, and sand create unstructured play and learning as opposed to conventional play equipment. Such an environment provides an opportunity for creative problem solving skills.

The Montessori Approach
"Free the child's potential, and you will transform him into the world."
The Reggio Emilia Approach
"The child has a hundred languages, a hundred hands, a hundred thoughts, a hundred ways of thinking, of playing, of speaking."
As Montessorians with a fascination to aspects of the Reggio Emilia approach,
we integrate elements of the Reggio approach to our Montessori environment to
create a rich and holistic educational experience for our children.
The Reggio Emilia approach’s emphasis on child-directed learning, creativity, and
the importance of the environment as a teacher can complement the Montessori
method’s focus on hands-on exploration, independence, and prepared learning
environments. For example, a classroom inspired by both approaches might
feature Montessori materials carefully curated to support children’s exploration and
discovery, while also incorporating Reggio inspired elements such as long-term
projects, documentation of children’s learning processes, and opportunities for
artistic expression.
By combining the Reggio philosophy into our Montessori environment, we are
creating a learning environment that honors each child’s unique interests and
abilities while fostering a deep love of learning and exploration. This integration
allows children to develop not only academically but also socially, emotionally, and
creatively, preparing them to thrive in an ever-changing world.
